How the home grant works

  1. Free survey and a fixed written price.
  2. You apply online to SEAI and wait for your Letter of Offer. We help you with every step.
  3. We install, usually in 1–2 days, and notify ESB Networks.
  4. Certification, a post-works BER and the grant paperwork. SEAI pays the grant to you once the works are complete.

Grants are decided by SEAI, not by Clear Sky Energy. Amounts are those published by SEAI on the date above and can change. Apply before any work starts.

Questions we’re asked

Who gets the grant money?
SEAI pays the grant to the applicant once the works are complete and the paperwork is in. It’s usually paid 4 to 6 weeks later.
Can I start before my Letter of Offer arrives?
No. Apply online first and wait for your Letter of Offer before any work starts or anything is ordered, or you can lose the grant. You then have 8 months to finish the works.
Is there VAT on solar?
Solar panels supplied and fitted to homes are at 0% VAT, and so are those for schools supplied and fitted under one contract.
What does my supplier pay for exported electricity?
Between 18.5c and 19.5c per kWh across the main suppliers in October 2026, under the Clean Export Guarantee. You need a smart meter. The first €400 a year is tax-free; Budget 2027 announced an increase to €600 (start date to be confirmed).
